MASSACHUSETTS ADOPTS RESOLUTION TO RAISE AWARENESS OF SLEEP APNEA
Boston, Mass., 25 March 2026 – Today, the Massachusetts House of Representatives announced the passing of a resolution, introduced by State Representative Carlos Gonzalez, recognizing March as Sleep Apnea Awareness Month. Alongside this, Governor Maura Healey recently issued an official proclamation further acknowledging the holiday, supporting a larger Sleep Apnea Awareness Initiative. Together, these actions make Massachusetts the third state to join Daybreak's growing national movement to bring awareness to the 83.7 million Americans affected by one of the country’s most underdiagnosed health crises.
“The Massachusetts House of Representatives’ recognition of Sleep Apnea Awareness Month helps shine a critical light on the importance of understanding, diagnosing, and treating sleep apnea,” said State Representative Carlos Gonzalez, who brought the resolution to the floor.
Daybreak, a leader in clinically proven, non-CPAP treatment for OSA, is proud to partner with the state of Massachusetts, alongside community health partners Clínica Monseñor Oscar A. Romero and SALEF. Together, they recognize the importance of advancing health equity in sleep apnea prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, particularly for Latino, Black, Asian American, and Pacific Islander communities, as well as low-income, rural, and underserved populations that are markedly more likely to go undiagnosed.
As a part of this initiative, the resolution further draws attention to OSA's direct impact on quality of life, including:
Individuals with OSA are 2.5 times more likely to be the driver in a motor vehicle accident (AASM)
OSA is observed to nearly double the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and all-cause mortality, with risk rising as sleep apnea severity increases (MDPI)
Workers with OSA have nearly twice the risk of occupational accidents compared with those without OSA (AASM)
Daybreak works to address gaps in sleep apnea care by offering a comfortable, discreet, and accessible alternative to traditional CPAP therapy. By reducing barriers to treatment, Daybreak helps more patients seek and sustain care, particularly those who have historically been underserved by traditional sleep medicine pathways.
“Sleep apnea is one of the most serious undiagnosed health crises in America and today, Massachusetts acknowledged what millions of families experience daily,” said Founder of Daybreak, Wesley Lones. “Our mission is clear: increase awareness, expand access to diagnosis and treatment, and ensure everyone affected gets the care they deserve. This resolution is another step forward, but there is still much more work to do.”
Following the adoption of the resolutions in California and Arizona earlier this month, Daybreak is building a national coalition of physicians, dentists, mental health professionals, and insurers united to help more Americans get diagnosed, treated, and back to living well.
